Lego Showcase, March 16, 9:30am, Grover Heights Elementary

Students from 8 Bright Futures Schools in the Lucia Mar Unified School District will be participating in the 2nd annual Lego Showcase. The event will take place on Saturday March 16th from 9:30am – 11:30am using LEGO creativity! Grover Heights Elementary will be hosting the LEGO Education Showcase Event at 770 North 8th Street, Grover Beach.

The Showcase Event is a customize-able building activity that sparks creativity in participants by allowing them to use their imaginations to create LEGO models around a theme. The theme for this year’s event is for teams to build an outer space metropolis or a procession of trains. The teams will be assisted by the Cal Poly Society of Civil Engineers and the Arroyo Grande High School Robotics Team.

NASA Announces New Design Challenge K-12

NASA unveiled an Exploration Design Challenge on Monday to give students from kindergarten through 12th grade the opportunity to play a unique role in the future of human spaceflight. The innovative educational opportunity was announced in a special event at NASA’s Johnson Space Center in Houston. The challenge asks students in the U.S. and abroad to think and act like scientists to overcome one of the major hurdles for deep space long-duration exploration — protecting astronauts and hardware from the dangers of space radiation.

We believe it is important to provide energy professional development opportunities for classroom teachers and to provide engaging and exciting energy curriculum for students in today’s classrooms.
