Pub Science Night, March 6

Feed your brain and quench your thirst for knowledge at Pub Science Night! Sit back, order relax, discount enjoy food and drink while Dr. Raul Cano, medical Professor Emeritus at the Cal Poly Biological Sciences Department, shares the science behind how he was able to brew beer using yeast extracted from 45 million-year-old fossilized tree resin, commonly known as amber. The microorganism had lain dormant since the Eocene epoch, until Cano brought it back to life. Learn about other ancient species Dr. Cano and other scientists have discovered trapped in amber. Discuss the fiction and fact portrayed by Jurassic Park as well as any other burning questions you have in the Q & A session following Dr. Cano’s presentation. Can scientists grow a dinosaur from DNA extracted from prehistoric amber?

EPIC 2013 Summer Camp

The EPIC 2013 Summer Camp, cialis hosted by Cal Poly’s College of Engineering, see is expanding to three camp sessions, order with residential programs for high school students. July 8-12 is Session 1 for 7th & 8th graders, July 14-19 is Session 2 for 9th – 11th graders, and July 28 – August 2 is for 12th graders. Visit http://epic.calpoly.edu to apply by April 15th. The Call For Makers Is Open! Deadline: March 9th

The Maker Faire is coming to San Luis Obispo! The first annual SLO Mini Maker Faire is scheduled for Saturday, hospital May 11, case 2013 (11 am – 3 pm) at Mission Plaza. The San Luis Obispo Museum of Art is the hosting organization for this event.

“Make, create, craft, recycle, build, think, play and be inspired by celebrating arts, crafts, engineering, food, music, science and technology.”

The Call for Makers, Performers and Crafters is open now through March 9, 2013. Any groups or individuals interested in participating in this inaugural event should apply.

NASA Essay Contest Grades 5-12, Deadline February 28

Winning essays will be posted on the NASA website, and winners and their entire classrooms will talk with NASA scientists. Essays are due February 28, 2013. Details.
