CCSTEM.org closing June 1st

Published on May 18, 2017, by

Dear Friends and Colleagues in STEM,

While the Central Coast STEM website will be going dark on June 1, 2017, the Board members would like you to know we will continue to advocate and place our energy into Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics in our area. Though we are sad to close this chapter on CCSTEM, we are very certain we will maintain connections through the work we currently do and will do in the future.

As you know, there are many resources on this website. We are going to “file” the site offline as best we can, but if there’s something on the site you care about, please feel free to download files that you want for your own safe keeping. Do it before May 30th.

No Bugging Out Tonight!

Published on May 16, 2017, by

The final Science After Dark program for 2016-2017 was held this evening at the SLO Children’s Museum: “YIKES! Don’t Bug Out: Annual Family Friendly Event”.

The Morro Bay National Estuary Project joined Cal Poly Future Teachers for a fun, family-friendly, hands-on experience with some of the most interesting and diverse arthropods…insects! Attendees learn about insects that live in the watershed and in your own backyard. Saw them up close and personal through microscopes, found out why termites follow certain trails, built an insect, and so much more. This Science After Dark was presented by Cal Poly Liberal Studies Department and faculty member Anne Marie Bergen.

Eight bug stations awaited the young scientists: Build Your Own Bug, Insect Sensors, Camouflage, Arthropods, Make a Colorful/Symmetrical Butterfly, Microscopes, Insect Collections, and Life Cycle/Pollinators.
