It was a big day for the Alvin All-Star Railroad. Open House! A goodly number of parents and siblings came, as well as another visiting 2nd grade class, another TV station (KSBY-6, San Luis Obispo, aired that evening on their 5pm and 6pm news), and the Santa Maria Times (which ran a picture and caption in their March 30th edition).
At left, three AASRR railroaders share their final reports with some visitors.
Below, you can see the short story and final report sharing centers in the foreground, the railroad platform in the background (beneath the flag), and the realia center just off-camera to the right.
Above, one of the AASRR students shares information about a piece of railroad equipment from the realia center.
Below, parents gather around the layout to watch their students operate the trains. See a Before and After Comparison of the HO layout.
And finally, at left bottom, Mrs. Foster debriefs the class after the Open House is complete. "What was your favorite part of the entire railroading experience?" The most common answers were driving the trains and the real railroad equipment (at the realia center).
Note the bandana with the AASRR patch in the foreground (left bottom picture). Each student was awarded the bandana with patch upon completion of their final report. All 17 students got one!
