The topic of this first presentation was "A Brief History of Railroading in the U.S.". In 33 slides, we went from horse-drawn carts on wooden rails to the look of modern railroading. Important dates during the presentation were highlighted by the presence of a crossing signal (pictured below/right) on the screen. This was their cue to make note of this date and to put it on their classroom timeline (which wraps all the way around the room). This use of the signal turned out to be a very effective attention grabber. There will be a number of these classroom presentations before and during the presence of the HO layout in the classroom, according to the schedule: 2002, 2003. A first grade class joined the Class of 2002 for this session, and one of the first graders returned this thank you picture: [Home] [Synopsis] [Train Layout (HO)] [Schedule: 2002, 2003] [For Teachers] [What's New] [Site Overview] |
