Alvin All-Star Railroad (AASRR)

5/2/03
Painting Layout Buildings
Realia and Signaling
Divider Historical Buildings

Above, the painting of the lime tower for the sugar mill is completed while in the background work on the divider continues.

At left, one student signals "Go!" with the yellow lantern in hand and the student train moves forward. In addition to doing a "show and tell" with all the railroad realia (from the Foster collection), we also taught some railroad hand signals [PDF, 24kb].

At right, work on the divider buildings continues.

At left, the railroad clerk (in the clerk's hat and red sweatshirt) gives a train order to the signalman (yellow shirt). The engineer (white shirt) is paying close attention trying to anticipate the hand signals he's about to receive.

At left, a different camera angle catches the same clerk as he hands over the day's orders. Note the wall-mounted oil lamp on the desk in front of him and the switch lock in the foreground.
