Small crowd welcomes passenger service to the PB&J Railroad
February 11, 1894*
Fosterville (AP) - A small crowd of well wishers gathered in the rain today to welcome the arrival of passenger service to the Fosterville area.
James Trevorsky, section manager for the PB&JRR, sounded an all stop as the newly converted Colorado and Southern Railway Company C-16 2-8-0 locomotive pulled the five passenger cars into the station near the Triple T Mining Company. In his prepared remarks, Mr. Trevorsky noted that the conversion of power for the C-16 had taken less time than expected and was thus arriving several weeks ahead of schedule. The arrival had originally been scheduled to coincide with a local affair scheduled for February 25, 1894*.
Three of the cars for this train were purchased from the Cannonball Express based at Petticoat Junction, one came from the Pennsylvania Railroad, and one from the Denver and Rio Grande. Mr. Trevorksy noted that no berth service was available at this time, though more cars have been ordered.
A "Welcome Ride" will take place as scheduled during the festivities of the 25th. Round trip from the depot by the Triple T will take about 2 hours, departing at precisely 2:00pm. Hot and cold drinks will be provided. There will be no charge for the "Welcome Ride", but seating is limited. Everyone wishing to avail themselves of this opportunity is encouraged to pick up their free ticket as promptly as possible.
