June 18-25, 2005Pages: 1, 2, 3, 4 Three Union Pacific locomotives stand ready.  Union Pacific No. 4948.  A Caltrain train at San Jose, CA.  A water tower stands behind the heat waves rising from Amtrak No. 86 and its helper of our No. 11 southbound Coast Starlight.  Ever wonder how you get to the other side of a train when it's blocking your path at a station?... Look for the walk-through car!  An old Orchard Suppy Hardware (OSH) boxcar.  One of Nanette's Parlour Car "Thermo-Nuclear" Bloody Marys. She told us they were "world famous" because they were on the web. And it's true, her bloody marys are discussed in a travelogue.  A wood Southern Pacific caboose at the Salinas, CA Amtrak station.  Also at the Salinas, CA Amtrak station is this 0-6-0 steam locomotive, No. 1237.  What are the odds that we'd run into some friends from the Santa Maria Valley Railway Historical Museum (SMVRHM) on our southbound leg?! The Martins' (left) radio scanner and Trevor's (right) GPS unit provided all kinds of railroading fun! This is an evening shot taken in the Parlour Car as we near Paso Robles, CA.
