Persons of character matter

by on Jul.21, 2016, under Uncategorized

It’ll be another President Clinton – prepare thy self.

I’m going to do a fair amount of looking at Gary Johnson. At this point, he’s my only potential option that could make any difference at all, not that I think he can win. He can’t. But a good 3rd party showing might enhance future choices. I simply can’t vote for either of the two major party nominees; neither is fit for the office.

I will vote. If Gary Johnson doesn’t work out for me, I’ll write in Ted Cruz.

Persons of character matter.

Judicial Supremacy

by on Jun.28, 2016, under Uncategorized

We’ve been here before. At one time, the Supreme Court supported slavery, too. And fought women’s suffrage (that’s bad, you may need to look up suffrage). It’s not easy to overcome a misguided majority (I’m being generous). Lincoln did it. Any Lincolns out there!?…

#DumpTrump

by on Jun.28, 2016, under Uncategorized

Whether you do it with the math, moral arguments, talk about character, war chests, competence, or whatever… There is really only one possibly successful path. The Red State guy summed it up this way:

1. We cannot let Hillary win.
(and)
2. Trump can’t/won’t beat her.
(therefor)
3. Dump Trump and put up someone else.

I think that about sums it up.

Given the path that this country is on, which is to say away from the Constitution and towards big-(corrupt-)government socialism, our future is on the line here. Yeah, we’ve been here before, sort of, but the last couple decades (the last 8 years particularly) has brought us, I think, to a precipice.

I sense that the Republican Convention this year will be a bellwether few days. Either they stick with Trump and we get Hillary, or they take a stand (you name for what, they all work) and make a run with someone else.

We can hope for an incremental victory. Don’t get too excited, we could elect an original Founding Father and he would not be able to turn this ship around very fast. I’ll be glad to take even a baby step in that direction. Look for character, statesmanship, spotless history (yes, there are some of us that are pretty clean, certainly compared to the crop in DC), and a commitment to the principles of the Constitution and small government.

At the Core of Conservatism

by on Jun.07, 2016, under Uncategorized

One thought…

“Conservative wisdom and principles are derived from the willingness to learn, not just from what is going on now, but from what has happened before. The principles of conservatism are sound because they’re based on what men and women have discovered through experience, in not just one generation or a dozen, but in all the combined experience of mankind.”

Parenting Advice

I know, this has nothing to do with the basic intent of this website. But, I thought this was worth sharing and didn’t know where else to put it (I don’t have a parenting blog)…

“When a kid’s in trouble, close your mouth and open your arms.” (not sure the source, was a trendfrenzy.net link.)

Unhappy Libs

Rush had an interesting observation today:

RUSH: “No, what’s actually interesting is that the Bernie Sanders voters, they’re ticked off, they’re ticked off at the failures of liberalism. They don’t know it, but that’s what’s got them upset. They have all this student loan debt; there wasn’t supposed to be any. They’ve got all these health care expenses; it was supposed to be free, and everybody was supposed to have it. There’s all this racial strife out there. That was supposed to be ended seven years ago when Obama got elected. America was supposed to be loved and adored. There weren’t supposed to be any more wars anywhere. The military was to have been neutered. None of it’s happened.”

Get a Kindle Version for FREE

by on Mar.18, 2016, under Uncategorized

U.S.-Constitution-Wikimedia-469x281Did you know you can get a free Kindle version of the U.S. Constitution from Amazon? It’s one of my favorite tactics…

I don’t know how many times someone tries to get me in a “who’s lying” contest. For example, I point out that Harry Reid said something about the content of the Constitution in 2005 and said exactly the opposite in 2016. Which time was he lying? Or confused? Then we start going back and forth about who knows the content of the Constitution.

But the way to end that nonsense kind of conversation is to ask, “Well, have you read the Constitution yourself? What does it actually say about that?”

No one I’ve ever asked has read it.

No wonder we’re going down the tubes.

Everyone OK?

by on Jan.27, 2016, under Uncategorized

It was 10 years ago today that Al Gore predicted the Earth had 10 years left before global warming (as it was referred to back then) would have scorched us out.

Can anyone name a doomsday prediction about any leftist nonsense (population, global warming, oil, etc.) that did come true? If you’re not paying attention to results, you are doomed to repeat being sucked into the nonsense, and dragging the rest of us with you. How many disastrous policies were put in place based at least in part on nonsense claims like this? Let me answer that. On a daily basis the economy is peppered with rules and regulations that do NOTHING other than stifle the economy. Because of that, a lot of poor people stay poor while the rich demagogues in power jet away to golf in Hawaii. The only thing that stands a chance of helping the poor (and everyone else, too) is a robust economy generating lots of wealth.

So, is everyone OK?

Even God is Optional

by on Jan.20, 2016, under Uncategorized

For the life of me, I can’t figure out why people who hate big business love big government. At least with big business I can choose not to do business with them. Try choosing not to pay your taxes as a “customer” of government.

Even God gives each individual the option to do business with him. Or not.

All living things are survivalists

by on Dec.11, 2015, under Uncategorized

Are you a God person? Or a Nature person? Or some sort of in-the-middle spiritual person?

It really doesn’t matter. Either way, we did not create ourselves. “The World” (whoever, whatever, however) created us just like everything else was created. Whatever we do is perfectly natural. We (human beings) are as much a part of nature as anything else.

So, what separates us from the animals? I offer this. All living things are survivalists. All living things kill/destroy other things to eat, live, etc.

So, what separates us from everything else? Humans have decided (most of the ones I know, anyway) that we have a right to survival, but not at the un-do expense of others. We have a right to kill others if others threaten mortal harm. We have a right to eat animals and plants as long as we’re prudent and conservative about it. We do not have a right to take from others, period. Can you wrap your mind around the fact that starving is not an excuse to steal in the human world, but is for anything else?

It may seem a subtle difference, but it means everything. Both ways.
