Alvin All-Star Railroad (AASRR)

Train Layout (HO) - 9/20/2001

The train sits on one of the sugar beet unloading ramps. In the background are green foam blocks and a paint can representing the sugar mill. Note now that an additional wall has been constructed to the right of the ramp. This wall completes the trough into which the beets are dumped and then floated into the mill by water running down a smaller trough at the base of the bigger trough.

Here's another view of the sugar beet ramps and mill. Note the book in the picture that has provided much information and considerable inspiration for the project in general and the layout in particular. The book is Hal Madson's "Railroads of the Santa Maria Valley", 2001. See the book signing event at the Santa Maria Valley Railway Historical Museum.

In this view of the sugar mill ramp area, a SMVRR caboose sits on a siding. Though nearly impossible to read in this picture, the caboose is marked "jf2.com/SMVRHM.ORG", the web address of the Santa Maria Valley Railway Historical Museum (of which we are a member).

Another view of the sugar beet mill area.

In this view, the observer gets the better view of the sugar beet mill profile built up with the green blocks and paint can.
