Sit back, order relax, discount enjoy food and drink while Dr. Raul Cano, medical Professor Emeritus at the Cal Poly Biological Sciences Department, shares the science behind how he was able to brew beer using yeast extracted from 45 million-year-old fossilized tree resin, commonly known as amber. The microorganism had lain dormant since the Eocene epoch, until Cano brought it back to life. Learn about other ancient species Dr. Cano and other scientists have discovered trapped in amber. Discuss the fiction and fact portrayed by Jurassic Park as well as any other burning questions you have in the Q & A session following Dr. Cano’s presentation. Can scientists grow a dinosaur from DNA extracted from prehistoric amber?
