Foxen Canyon to Los Olivos and Enjoy Cupcakes

Tracy and Matt had been to Enjoy Cupcakes on their getaway on Friday, and that put the bug in Lynn's mind... So, Papa Bill, Jamie, Lynn, Serafina, and Matteo took a little Sunday drive toward Los Olivos. We took the back way down Foxen Canyon Road.

Rancho Sisquoc Winery

Nothing like an Angry Bird and a D.S. to keep 'em happy.

Gravel art on the table at Rancho Sisquoc was pretty cool.

Now if that doesn't juxtapose the two ends of the toy technology spectrum.

We stopped at the Chapel of San Ramon. It's the chapel pictured on the Rancho Sisquoc Winery bottles.

Serafina was doing a great job of explaining this image to Matteo.

Serafina was fully engaged in reading the headstones. She was particularly interested in the dates, and the ages at which people died. The younger ones always elicited a pensive "That's sad."

Enjoy Cupcakes in Los Olivos. We learned today that the trailer has been sold and a new one is on the way. Watch the blog...

Did we mention the cupcakes are out of this world!

See that window in the background...

There was a little park right next to Enjoy Cupcakes. And it had a little photo window setup.

Then a stroll through Los Olivos...

There were so many fountains in town that the kids went through much of Papa Bill's pocket change.

Throughout the trip we had been pointing out old right-of-way from the Pacific Coast Railroad and the Santa Maria Valley Railroad. Matteo started showing an interest, so we stopped to point out where an old Pacific Coast Railroad bridge had been. The red line shows (roughly) the track bed and the orange shows where the bridge supports were. This spot is just outside of Los Olivos on the way north to 101, on the right. From then on, every time Matteo saw any land structure that looked at all like that, it was a "missing bridge"! For more such info, see the Friends of the SMVRR 8/13/11 Roadamite Field Trip.
